"E" is the letter for this week's photo challenge over at ABC Wednesday.

Early Emergence
(daffodils)

I believe this is a bit early for the daffodils to be coming up around here, but I guess that's what happens when the winter has been so mild!

Tulips

I think it's so pretty how the overexposure in this image makes the petals look translucent.

Dandelion Details

I took this dandelion picture last year. I really like the detail of the lines of dandelion fluff.

Week 3 Photography Class Assignment

This week we're experimenting with ISO (film speed) in my photography class. We had to take a picture of a flower, one at a low ISO and one at a high ISO. There aren't many flowers that are still blooming around here. Most have gone to seed, so I shot some clover "flowers" instead.

I adjusted my shutter speed when taking my pics so that the lighting wouldn't be too dark or too light, but I kept the aperture the same to keep some continuity in the photos. Both of these images were shot manually.

Red Tulips in a Row

Yes, fall has just begun, but Unique Exposure's photo challenge for the week is "Red," and this picture fits perfectly.

Red Tulips in a Row

I took this shot this past spring when my tulips were blooming. I loved how these three blooms were lined up stairstep in a row.

Younger Daughter's Photo Shoot

On Monday I was able to get outside with Younger Daughter to take her yearly portraits. She is very photogenic, and I'm really happy with how her pictures turned out. She loves to pick flowers and wanted to put them in her purse to take home; I was able to incorporate that into the photo shoot, too.

Feathery Flower

I took the pic of this flower when we were in Glacier this summer. The colors were so bright and the flower petals so unique I couldn't pass it up. I'd never seen a flower like it before. I was just growing on the side of the path, so it's probably a weed, but I still thought it was really neat looking.

Clover

Every Friday is "Macro Friday" over at Blogging From Bolivia. I thought I'd jump in and participate over there for the first time today.

I took this picture of clover last summer as I was was going for a walk along a country road near our house. Isn't it amazing how much beauty is in the everyday flowers we often consider weeds? (Or food if you're an animal!)

"Orange" You Glad It's Summer?

Paper Mama's photo challenge for the week is "Orange." Color-themed challenges seem to be popular lately!

Here's a photo I took of Younger Daughter wearing her orange shirt one evening when we went on for a walk by some fields and woods near our house.

Life Amidst Death

Thematic Photographic's challenge for the week is "Orange."

Here's another picture I took on our trip to Glacier. (Are you sick of these Glacier pics yet?) I love the contrast of the bright orange flowers against the drab, dead tree trunk. It makes me think of the resurrection, hope amidst despair, a light in the dark.

This picture I took last year of our flax flowers fit in perfectly with Unique Exposure's "Blue" theme for the week. (Click the link to see more images highlighting blue.)

Butterflies

Perceptive Perspective has "Critters" at its photo theme for this week.

We have a bunch of coneflowers planted in the flowerbed in front of our living room window. This year a whole bunch of butterflies discovered it and decided to make it their playground. Sometimes when you walk past, atleast 6 butterflies fly up out of the flowers. Today I snapped some pretty nice pictures with my telephoto lens.

Butterfly #1

This one is my favorite because I love how the depth of field almost makes the flower with the butterfly on it look like it is floating out of clouds.
